almost…
April 29, 2008We almost had a disaster today. It’s Janet’s birthday (happy birthday!) and we decided to bake her a chocolate cake and take it round later (when I say ‘we’ I mean I thought it was a good idea and J is baking the cake!) Normally the baking cupboard is my domain and I do love it all ordered so have got little containers for everything..
The problem is that these four containers all contain white substances and are not labeled – I know what they are! J picked one that looked like caster sugar and put 2 cups of it into the cake!!! Unfortunately it was not sugar but salt!!!
Needless to say the containers are now labeled!!
And J is remaking the cake
Just as well we realised before we dropped the cake off!!!
rainy sunday
April 27, 2008What are you meant to do on a rainy sunday while your husband sleeps? The answer? Curl up on the sofa with a blanket, a bowl of popcorn and a West Wing DVD!!! So good!! We’re into season 5 now. I did go out this morning to church and then had lunch with people from church so it’s not like I lazed about ALL day!!
I also spoke for a while with my sweet brother. His wedding service is coming together and looks great!! I cannot wait to come home for it!!
The moderator of the Church of Scotland said this in an article my mum sent me. I’ve been thinking about it
“We all live by what we believe will make life more comfortable, more exciting, more enjoyable or more fulfilling, even if we are atheist.”
Saturday’s list
April 26, 2008J was going to post today but he slept for a lot of the day and has literally just got up and gone to work. Our life slows down dramatically when it’s night shift time. Anyway here’s what’s happening in the quiet of our apartment:
- Chelsea have just beaten Manchester United – strong work!! (Okay that’s not LITERALLY happening in our apartment!)
- I’m almost finished West Wing 4 and loving every minute!!
- I’m reading another of Tm Winton’s books and enjoying it
- I’m planning a children’s talk series on the catechism which I’ll start a week tomorrow, as well as a sermon for two weeks tomorrow and a home group study for next week based on the talk I’ll give on the Sunday
- I’m working through thoughts for Lewis and Louise’s wedding which I’m doing!! Didn’t know I did weddings did you?!
- I’m also enjoying as much of the delicious cool autumnal weather – mid 20s today and just gorgeous. I sat on our balcony and read this afternoon – bliss!!
- I’m also making some meals to take round to the Geddes’ what with having a new baby and all!
toddler night #2
April 24, 2008Chain factor is my latest game addiction. KJ recommended it and I’m with them on survival mode and tilt. My high score is 616,648. Bring it on!!
I received the second part of the DVD of Jo and Andy’s wedding today. Thanks to all the people who sent me messages it was LOVELY to hear from you and see you. I’m so sad to have missed the wedding.
Toddler night #2 went well last night again. She woke at 3am but only briefly and settled herself. Poor J was awake for an hour afterwards though (I have the most excellent gift of being able to go straight back to sleep!!) Today is one of those days when I hardly see him – he had a tutorial this morning and went straight from it to work. He should be home around midnight and will undoubtedly be exhausted!! Because we weren’t at home this morning he didn’t have stuff to make lunch today and so I met his train as it passed through our station (in between tutorial and work). I literally handed him the bag as the doors opened and closed!!
toddler night #1
April 23, 2008A success. And it bodes well for the future!! Ruby slept for most of the night, waking only occasionally and when she did Jonathan heard her (I did only vaguely) and she settled herself pretty quickly. At 6:30am when I went in to get her she was sitting sweetly in her crib telling herself stories. The whole dressing and breakfasting went without a hitch and then we dropped her off at day care. By 9:30am I felt like I’d had a full day!! All good though and more of the same tonight.
baby girl
April 22, 20085:53am my phone went off (J was already awake, I certainly wasn’t!!) Janet’s waters had broken and we were on Ruby duty. A few hours later (round about 10am I think) baby girl Geddes II was born – 5 hours or so from water breaking to delivery. So Ruby and I have had a delightful day playing and singing and going to the park and reading books (and I watched TWO episodes of the West Wing while she had a 2.5 hour nap!!) J came back from teaching at lunchtime and this afternoon we drove her in to the hospital to meet her new sister. We’re back on duty tonight so John can stay over with Janet and the baby. How exciting for them!
This afternoon, after dropping Ruby off at the hospital, J and I went and explored a bit more of King’s Park – it’s lovely and has great views of the city! We didn’t have the camera though which was a shame but it looked much like the picture below!

April 21, 2008—deleted paragraph —
Just had a lovely dinner with an ex-colleague of mine from St Meg’s in Aberdeen and her boyfriend who are touring about NZ and Oz so there was lots of chat about favourite haunts in NZ and also some chat about the Scottish highlands. All good. And I made Meg’s chocolate nut torte from the wedding recipe book and it was very tasty!
