study

July 30, 2008

J’s study has too many books and pieces of paper so he moved to the dining table to work! (Note the cards in the background – cad rum has been played in many of the study breaks!)

Windy windy day here!! I love it. We went to the beach for some fresh air and exercise and were the only ones there. The waves were crashing and the wind was whipping my hair every which way. Living near the beach is a great thing!

all quiet

July 28, 2008

It’s just study study study here and I’m reading a novel that is over 1000 pages and am totally engrossed so we both just sit and read (granted J’s reading has a whole lot more purpose than mine!)

I did take a big old long walk today in the drizzle and listened to a sermon which was refreshing both physically and spiritually (we download Redeemer sermons and L O V E them!! It’s only $2.50 per sermon and less for a whole series and you just download it onto your ipod – genius!!! Go on, check it out. I’ll speak to J when he gets back from his tutorial and we’ll post our top ten sermons).

Jonathan made beer battered rosy snapper fish with rocket salad for tea tonight and it was DELICIOUS!! Seriously good. (Are you all picturing me lying on the sofa reading while my poor husband studies all day and then has to make dinner?!? In my defense he really does love cooking and it’s a welcome change from the books for him!) I didn’t take a picture because I reckon we’ve done enough food pictures in this blog but the taste was great!!

Right, now back to my novel…

well I never

July 26, 2008

I realised this morning that we haven’t seen mist since we left Scotland!! Definitely made me nostalgic for home!

But this ISN’T Scotland and so only a wee while later it was like this…

A scorcher of a day (I reckon – but my thermostat has been known to not be tuned to everyone’s!) even other people were out in t-shirts! Janet and I were both husband-less due to work and so we went with her girls to a Farmer’s market and bought fresh strawberries and had a wee picnic which means I had lots of sweet toddler and baby hugs today! When I arrived at their house this morning Janet told me that when she told Ruby I was coming round to visit Ruby asked whether Jonathan was coming too – she does love him!! I walk into their house and she smiles, J walks in and she has a massive grin and starts talking away (very little of which we understand) and then sits on the sofa and pats the space beside her for him to sit down too!

I met J after work this afternoon and we had a treat – fish and chips in Freo by the water!

Before returning home for J to study.

A lovely day.

Two weeks today Lewis and Louise get married – I am so excited!!

still alive

July 25, 2008

Well, there’s not been a whole lot happening the last few days to blog about. J worked the night shift last night (the roster has been such a mess and caused no end of headaches!) but that should be him done now with nights until after the exam (at the moment he’s rostered on to do the four nights just before his exam!!) And I’ve been doing the usual – playgroup, seeing the Geddes girls, reading, cooking etc. I did finish the first draft of the talk for Lewis’ wedding and I think it’s okay.

So I’m sorry there’s nothing more exciting to say – it’s just that ‘head down, study hard out’ phase!! – but we are alive and doing very well (and still loving every minute of being married!!)

productive day

July 23, 2008

Today was a rainy stay at home type day but we both got a good bit done. J studied most of the day and then is out at a tutorial tonight. He kept saying he was going to take a break but then got absorbed in what he was doing which is a great sign!! I finished the first draft of Lewis and Louise’s wedding talk, read a book, made a tasty spiced lentil soup and went to home group. We did manage to fit in time for a pillow fight though which we finished quickly upon hitting the light fitting in the living room and causing it to swing violently!! And also time for a couple of games of cad rum – by candlelight just to make it more romantic (can cad rum be romantic?!?)

Great ‘apple’ pancake comments last time you creative people. (Nice pun dad!)

‘apple’ pancake

July 22, 2008

I looked down and there before me was a pancake in the shape of an apple – not quite the virgin Mary but worth a photo I thought!

early morning ramblings

July 21, 2008

Yeah, there was no connection between ol’ blue eyes and the dogs – just two random thoughts in my head!

J is much better. Still has a cough but reckons he’s at 90% health! So it’s study a go go for him – only two weeks to go!!! (Well, right now he’s making pancakes for breakfast but after that it’s study study study)

We received a letter and book from Bill and Miriam yesterday which was addressed to Jono and Morvello. In all the alternative options for Morven I’ve never had that one before but I like it!! (Thanks B+M for the book – it looks great!!!)

ol’ blue eyes

July 20, 2008

my sweet husband!

I had a softening moment today toward the canine species. Two dogs were running on the beach this afternoon with their owner who was throwing a tennis ball for them to fetch. One was a big black, sleek, lean dog, the other was a wee brown dog with legs about 2cm tall! When the owner threw the ball both dogs ran for it. The big black sleek one quite obviously out ran the wee one and gracefully caught the ball. The wee dog did not give up however and raced after the ball as fast as its ridiculously short legs could carry it wagging it’s tail for joy. None of this, however, caused the softening. It was what the big black sleek dog did once it had caught the ball that made me smile. Instead of running back to his owner with the prize he ran to the wee brown ridiculously short legged dog and dropped the ball at its feet so that the wee dog could pick the ball up and take it back to the owner to throw again. (Granted the wee dog, as well as having ridiculously short legs, also had a very little jaw so could only carry the ball for a short distance!) Still, I loved that the big black sleek dog took the ball to his wee friend to have a go too. What a thoughtful dog!!

storm of the year (so far!)

July 18, 2008

Boy, it was wet and wild today!! Roofs were blowing off, trees falling down and a golf shop at the start of the day had a massive golf ball on it’s roof as a sign and mid-way through the morning it came off and rolled down the street! Thankfully the worst we had were high winds and awesome thunder and lightning.

It started to clear this afternoon though and so I decided to go visit the Geddes girls and then go to the Freo fish market and meet J after work. All was good until J and I stepped off the train coming back to the flat and were SOAKED in 3 seconds. I haven’t been so wet since Jude and I walked to the cinema in Aberdeen to see Welcome to Sarejevo. There’s something just lovely about getting sopping wet when you’re on your way home though! (It’s not great for J getting over the flu though!!)

land of the long white cloud

July 17, 2008

J received his new hoodie today and it looks rather fetching!!

Tea tonight: baked red snapper with a lime and orange sauce served with roasted leeks and red onions and a side salad of rocket, mango and pine nuts – delicious if I do say so myself!!
